Thank you for your interest in joining the Yamily!

Are you a passionate, engaging, and curious young Asian-American creator? Do you want to convey the Asian-American youth experience to a diverse national audience?

YALA aims to establish a wide platform for young AAPIs who are in the process of exploring the intersectional facets of their identities, and we are seeking both editors and creative (i.e. poetry, prose) and expository writers to contribute to RISE, our online publication. We’re looking for people from all walks of life–any Asian ethnic background, any region in the US, any political affiliation, any background.

You can read the first issue of RISE here to get a sense of the content we aim to produce.

Content producers should have a strong command of grammar and style and will be expected to produce 1-2 pieces of content every three months, collaborate with editors, and meet various revision deadlines.

Editors should have an exceptionally strong command of grammar and style, the ability to adapt to different working and writing styles, and superb communication skills. Editors will be expected to coordinate revision schedules with and edit the works of a group of content creators (exact number in group dependent on number of editors and creators). Strong editor candidates will be invited to a 15-minute Skype interview with one or more members of the board of directors.

APPLICATIONS ARE DUE MAY 27th, and candidates can be expected to be contacted within 2 weeks of initial application submission.

Selected content producers and editors will be expected to commit to a one-year term that will likely equate to work on approximately four issues of RISE, after which renewal for the next year will be discussed.

Please contact with any questions, comments, or concerns. We look forward to reviewing your applications and getting to know you!

(If you’ve read through all of this, be sure to include “YAMS ROCK!” somewhere in your application!)
